Day Trip Xuan Thuy National Park is located in Giao Thuy District, Nam Dinh Province; south of Ba Lat, where the Red River flows into the East Sea. Since January 1989, Xuan Thuy National Park was the first wetland area of Southeast Asia to join the RAMSAR International Convention; It was recognized by UNESCO as the core zone of the World Biosphere Reserve in the Red River Delta region in 2004.
The park has a core zone of 7,100 ha, home to 120 plant species, more than 500 species of animals and 30 reptiles and amphibians. Every year, from October to March next year, tens of thousands of migrating birds from the north have chosen to stop here for warm weather and food.
Leave Hanoi in the morning we drive 4 hours to Nam Dinh Province, 150 km south-west of Hanoi in the coastal zone of the Red River Delta.
Around midday we arrive Day Trip Xuan Thuy National Park, formally known as a Nature Reserve of the area and later became Vietnam’s first Ramsar site, for the conservation of wetlands.
We embark on a boat trip to discover the wetland. After a one hour boat trip through the National Park we arrive at a Clam Hut where we will be served a delicious seafood lunch. We can rest and relax in the Hut for a while before transferring back to the mainland. From here we will be picked up and driven to discover the local villages. A bicycle ride can be arranged upon your request.
Drive along country lanes at a peaceful pace viewing local life we pause to see farmers toiling in their rice fields using centuries of farming practices. We also stop to visit the local fish-sauce workshop. Our guide will tell us about the traditional methods of making this delicious sauce. Riding back we will see ancient houses, catholic churches and the Agriculture Museum. If time permits we will visit the salt fields to watch the locals making salt, here you can try to become a salt-farmer!
Finish the tour we wind our way for 4 hours back to Hanoi.
